b. Warsaw, Poland. Studied in Berne, Swizerland. Biochemist, forerunner in the field of nutritional science. Made first formulation of the concept of vitamins. Worked in the U.S. at Cornell Medical Center in New York and Columbia University as well as at H. A. Metz & Co.
