Grunn, Homer, 1880-1944

Grunn was born on May 5, 1880 in West Salem, WI; attended Stern's Conservatory, Berlin, studying with Emil Liebling, A. Brune, and Ernest Jedlicka; had his debut as a concert pianist in Chicago, 1900; taught piano at the Chicago Musical college, 1903-7; moved to Los Angeles in 1910; soloist with Los Angeles Symphony Orchestra and People's Orchestra, 1913-15; co-founded Brahms Quintet, 1910; soloist with Los Angeles Chamber Music Society; president, California Society of Composers, 1937-38; compositions include March heroique, Hopi Indian dance, Zuni Indian suite, Humoresque negre, The Mars diamond, The golden pheasant, The isle of cuckoo, and In a woman's reign; he died on June 6, 1944 in LA.
