New York Botanical Garden. Herbarium
Begun in 1896 with the transfer of the Columbia University Herbarium, the Herbarium of the New York Botanical Garden has grown to become one of the world's largest and most active. Encompassing the collections of many renowned botanists and plant explorers, the Garden has led over 800 expeditions to botanically unknown areas since its founding. Geographical emphasis has always been on the flora and mycota of the New World.
