Dreger, Ralph Mason

Ralph Dreger was born in Chicago on April 13, 1913 and began his professional life as a Methodist minister, graduating with a seminary degree from Wheaton College in Illinois. Dreger then moved to Fresno, California where he began a long career of activism by speaking out against the internment of Japanese-Americans during World War II. After moving to Baton Rouge in 1964, Dreger continued to champion civil rights causes throughout the South and co-founded both the Louisiana and Baton Rouge chapters of the Council on Human Relations. He became a Professor Emeritus of Psychology at Louisiana State University and continued to head panels and speak out against discrimination until his death in 2004.
