Educator, consultant, musicologist, and journalist; director of the National Arts Foundation and and helped to organize the International Awards Foundation; taught at University of Illinois (1926-1929), De Paul University (1928-1934), and Oxford University (1931-1939); music editor of Esquire and European corresponent for the New York Herald Tribune.
