Ludovici, Anthony M. (Anthony Mario), 1882-1971
Anthony M. Ludovici was born in London on January 8, 1882, to Albert and Marie Ludovici. He was educated privately and abroad, but chiefly by his mother. In 1920, he married Elsie F. Buckley (d. 1959). Ludovici started his life as an artist and at one time was the private secretary for the sculptor, Auguste Rodin. His translation of the works of Friedrich Nietzsche is still considered a standard work. Ludovici was also a reviewer of currently published works about women and society for major English periodicals. A self-proclaimed expert on the subject of women and their place in history and society, Ludovici held that women could be fulfilled only by marrying and childbearing. He died April 3, 1971.
