Poole, Mary Elizabeth, 1914-
Mary Elizabeth Poole (1914- ) received an A.B. in history from Duke University in 1935, and a B.S. in library science from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill in 1936. From 1936 to 1943 she was the documents librarian at Duke University. Poole began working at D.H. Hill Library at North Carolina State College (later University) in 1945. She contributed to the field of documents librarianship through her publications Documents Office Classification and The “Classes Added” Reprint Edition of the Monthly Catalog of U.S. Government Publications, 1895-1924. In 1978 Poole received the James B. Childs Award, the highest honor the American Library Association can bestow on a documents librarian.
