Oberlin Peace Society (Oberlin, Ohio)

The Oberlin Peace Society was organized in the fall of 1930 for the purpose of promoting peace and investigating the causes of war. The society sought to mobilize Oberlin opinion as an agent to further its aims. It sponsored lectures and study groups, sent delegates to conventions, and corresponded with politicians and other peace organizations. Oberlin College President Ernest Hatch Wilkins (1880-1966) was for several years a member of the society. In 1940, the society merged with the Public Affairs Society to form the Peace and Public Affairs Forum.
