American Temperance House (Worcester, Mass.)
In 1835 Alfred Dwight Foster (1800-1852) converted his house on Main Street in Worcester, Mass., into a hotel. The brick building was known as the "American House" or the "American Temperance House." Among the proprietors were Eleazer Porter ( - ), Richard W. Adams ( - ), Warner Hinds (1790-1873), and others. The building was enlarged and converted into stores in 1857, and was known as "American House Block."
