Bowen, Edwin A., 1831-1900.
Edwin Anson Bowen (1831-1900), an Illinois businessman and a Union officer. Having attended Judson College at Mt. Palatine, he settled in Lemoille, Bureau Co. In 1846 he joined Kerny's Division and served under Sterling Price in New Mexico, taking part in the operations against the rebels in Jan. - Feb. 1847. In 1859 he traveled to Pike's Peak. At the outbreak of the Civil War, Bowen joined the 52nd Illinois Infantry and was elected Capt. Of Co. B., later rising to the rank of Lieutenant Colonel. The regiment was assigned to the Army of the Tennessee from March 1862 to July 1865. Bowen took part in the battle of Shiloh, (he commanded the regiment on the second day of the battle), Siege of Corinth, operations around Vicksburg, and Atlanta Campaigns. He was mustered out in October 1864, and later was active in the regiment veterans' association.
