Espey, John Jenkins 1913-

Espey was born on Jan. 15, 1913 in Shanghai, China; AB, Occidental College, 1935; BA (1937), B. Litt (1938), MA (1941), Oxford Univ.; served from instructor to assoc. professor, Occidental College, 1938-48; taught as asst. professor to professor (1948-73), then became emeritus professor of English, UCLA; published works include Tales out of school (1947), Ezra Pound's Mauberly : a study in composition (1955), The empty box haiku (1980), and Minor heresies, major departures : a China mission boyhood (1994).
