Company G, together with the rest of the 1st Infantry Regiment, was mustered at Camp Olden, Trenton, New Jersey, May 21, 1861; commanded by captains Alexander M. Way and (from August 1863) Jacob D. Wyckoff (1838-1864); consisted primarily of men from Central New Jersey, especially New Brunswick, Middlesex County; served chiefly in Virginia.
