Whistler, Anthony, 1714 or 1715-1754
Anthony Whistler (1714-1754), poet, attended Eton College before going to Pembroke College, Oxford in 1732, where he became friends with William Shenstone and Richard Graves. His poem, The Shuttlecock, was published in 1736; the following year, a volume of his poetry was also published. He died in Whitchurch in 1754, at the age of forty. Through Shenstone, several of Whistler's poems were included posthumously in Robert Dodsley's Collection of Poems, by Several Hands.
