Pentecostal Church of the Nazarene. Abilene (Tex.) District.
The Church of the Nazarene is a religious denomination whose foundation is rooted in the uniting of many churches, most specifically those from the Holiness and Pentecostal traditions. Although the Church of the Nazarene was founded at a local level in 1895, a meeting in 1908 between the Pentecostal Church of the Nazarene and the Independent Holiness Church is considered the official establishment of the Pentecostal Church of the Nazarene as a national organization. To better manage its outreach activities, the new church was divided into districts, and the Abilene District was organized in 1909. The District Assemblies held in Hamlin, Texas (1912) and Bowie, Texas (1913) marked its fourth and fifth annual meetings.
