Queensberry, Catherine Douglas, Duchess of, 1700 or 1701-1777
In 1729, Catherine Douglas expressed outrage at the Lord Chamberlain's refusal to license the performance of John Gay's Polly (which satirized Sir Robert Walpole). This led George II to bar her from the court, and the Duke of Queensberry to resign his offices.
