Allen, B. Sprague (Beverly Sprague), 1881-1935

Beverly Sprague Allen, author and educator, was born in San Francisco, California on April 9, 1881. Allen received his B.A. and M.A. degrees in English from the University of California at Berkeley in 1903 and 1905, respectively. In 1913 he received his doctorate from Harvard University, and was awarded the Sheldon traveling fellowship by Harvard for 1913-1914. In 1914 Allen became professor of English at New York University, where he remained until April, 1934. Professor Allen died on March 11, 1935 in California.
