Cohen, Joseph, 1926-....

Joseph Cohen, retired Professor of English at Tulane University, dedicated his career to the literature of the first World War. His dissertation, directed by Harry Ransom, explored the life and writings of Wilfred Owen. His research involved extensive correspondence and interviews with those who had known the poets, including both the family members of the poets such as Harold Owen, Annie Wynick, and David Burton, as well as literary figures. His research on Rosenberg culminated in the publication of his book, Journey to the Trenches: The Life of Isaac Rosenberg 1890-1918 (London and New York, 1975). As an extension of his research he began collecting the literature of the Great War. His collection is now part of the Great War Collections in the Rare Books and Special Collections Department at the University of South Carolina.
