Riddell, Elizabeth, 1907-1998
Journalist and poet. Born in Napier, New Zealand in 1907, Riddell came to Australia in 1928 and worked from the 1930s on a number of papers including "Smith's Weekly", "Daily Guardian" and for the Fairfax and Packer groups. During World War II she was a war correspondent in London, returning later to Australia as a feature writer and book reviewer for the "Daily Mirror", "The Australian" and "The Bulletin". Her poetry has won numerous awards and published as collected works (e.g. Selected poems, 1972) and in journals such as The Bulletin and Overland.
