Kilburn, Samuel Smith

Samuel Smith Kilburn (1831-1903) was born in Boston, Mass., and was a successful artist and wood engraver in that city for many years. He travelled widely in the United States just before the Civil War, visiting several cities and towns to make sketches. His work appeared generally in _Gleason's Pictorial Magazine_ and _Ballou's Pictorial_. He continued to draw and engrave throughout his life and was noted for the excellence of his work. He died at West Newton, Mass.
