Robert O. and Margaret C. Blood were active Quakers, members of Ann Arbor Monthly Meeting, Michigan. Robert Blood (1921-1988) was the son of New Hampshire governor Robert O. Blood and professor of sociology at University of Michigan. He married Margaret McKee Cheek (1918-1999) in 1944. After Robert's retirement in 1967, they both earned licenses as clinical social workers and developed a private practice in individual and couple therapy.
