Benedict, C. Harry 1876-1963.

C. Harry Benedict was born in Pittsburg, PA in 1876 where he attended public schools until attending Cornell University. Teaching at Cornell for just a year, he soon moved to Michigan's Copper Country to take a job with Calumet & Hecla Mining Company. He was associated with Calumet & Hecla for 50 years, 47 of which were spent as chief metallurgist. Benedict was the author of "Red metal: the Calumet and Hecla story," a history of the company.<CR><CR>He was also a lecturer at Michigan Technological University for 22 years and a member of its Board of Control for 7 years. Already a recipient of an honorary doctorate from the university, Michigan Technological University also honored the late Dr. Benedict in 1964 by renaming the Ores Research Building as the Benedict Laboratory.
