Bardeen, C. W. (Charles William), 1847-1924
Charles William Bardeen (1847-1924) was born in Groton, Massachusetts. After fighting in the Civil War, Bardeen worked his way through Yale, graduating in 1869. He found employment as a vice-principal and teacher after graduation, and held various positions as school principal, superintendent, and college English professor until 1873. At that time Bardeen took over the New York State agency for Clark and Maynard's educational publications, whose headquarters were located in Syracuse, New York. Bardeen became managing editor of the "School Bulletin" in 1874 and retained that position for almost half a century.
