Boyd, Gilbert W. 1905-1969.

Gilbert W. Boyd was born in Readsboro, Vermont in 1905 but grew up and was educated in Detroit, Michigan. Both his bachelor's and master's degrees in metallurgy were conferred by the University of Detroit. After a short term teaching at his alma mater, he worked for General Motors until joining the faculty at Michigan College of Mining and Technology (now Michigan Technological University) in Houghton, Michigan in 1937. As one of the more active faculty members, he was a member and president of the Faculty Association and served as secretary of the Faculty Senate for ten years. In 1960 he was selected by faculty, students, and alumni to received the Distinguished Teacher Award.

Off campus, Boyd's favorite diversion was piloting his own plane. He was also an accomplished musician, he was the church organist at St. Peter and Paul Lutheran Church in Hancock where he was also a trustee. Gilbert Boyd passed away in 1969.
