Johnson, Harold R., 1923-2008

Harold R. Johnson (b. 1923, Graettinger, Iowa-d. Aug. 29, 2008), U. S. Air Force officer, entered the Army Air Corps in 1942 as an aviation cadet and graduated as a bombardier. During World War II, he flew thirty combat missions with the 8th Air Force in the European Theater of Operations. After the War, he held a number of positions with the Air Force Communications Service, involved with communications systems planning. During the 1950s he was a staff member, Supreme Headquarters, Allied Powers Europe, working on system planning for NATO. During the 1960s he worked with the White House telecommunications director, and in 1968 he assumed command of the Pacific Communications Area. General Johnson retired in 1970.
