Baker, Richard Bohun, 1736-1783.
Owner of Archdale Hall, a plantation in Dorchester County (S.C.) which had previously been owned by his grandfather William Baker (d. 1718) and great-grandfather Richard Baker (d. 1698). Richard Bohun Baker (1736-1783) was the son of Richard Baker (d. 1752) and Mary Bohun (daughter of Nicholas Bohun). Richard Bohun Baker was tax inquirer and collector for the Parish of St. George Dorchester and served as a legislator in the South Carolina House of Representatives. He was also a Captain in the Second Regiment of South Carolina Continental troops. In 1756 he married Elizabeth Elliott (d. 1771), by whom he had five children: William Bohun Baker (died young); Richard Bohun Baker (1757-1837), who married Harriett Hyrne (daughter of Mary and Henry Hyrne); Elizabeth Elliott Baker, who married Isaac Holmes; Mary Bohun Baker, who married William Branford; and Charlotte Bohun Baker, who married William Branford Peters. Richard Bohun Baker's second wife was Elizabeth Ladson Miles, by whom he had one child, William Bohun Baker (b. 1778). Elihu Baker was the uncle of Richard Bohun Baker.
