University of Minnesota. University Gallery
The University Gallery, originally known as the Little Gallery, was established at the University of Minnesota on April 5, 1934. The gallery's function was to increase art appreciation by students, faculty, staff, and the general public. In January 1990, Los Angeles businessman and art collector, Frederick R. Weisman gave $3.5 million to the University for the construction of a new art museum overlooking the Mississippi River. The Frederick R. Weisman Art Museum opened in November 1993.
