Order of Ahepa
A social, cultural, and fraternal organization, the Order of AHEPA (American Hellenic Educational Progressive Association) was founded in 1922. The Order has about 50,000 members with 440 local branches and 500 auxiliaries for women and children. The Order is affiliated with the American Immigration and Citizenship Conference. It helps newly arrived Greeks adapt to American life, encourages the dissemination of Hellenic ideas and culture, provides financial assistance to various charities, sponsors tours to Greece, grants college scholarships, encourages the study of Greek language and culture, and maintains an archival collection. The Order is based in Washington, D. C.
