Walker, Estellene P.
Estellene Paxton Walker (1911-1983) served as Post Librarian, 1941-1945, at Fort Jackson, S.C.; she also served as Director of the South Carolina Library Board, 1946-1969, and as Librarian at the South Carolina State Library (Columbia, S.C.), 1969-1979; as the daughter of a civil engineer, E.P. Walker lived in many places before her family settled in Asheville, N.C.; she completed her degree in Library Science from Emory University in 1935 and that same year accepted a position with the extention department of Knoxville's Lawson McGhee Library.
