Dahringer, John F.,

Basil W. Duke, lawyer and Confederate officer, was born in Scott County, Kentucky, in 1838. After the Civil War, Duke opened a law office in Louisville and was a chief counsel and lobbyist for the Louisville & Nashville Railroad for over twenty years. He also served in the Kentucky House of Representatives and was elected commonwealth's attorney in 1875. As a historian interested in the Civil War and the development of transportation and banking, Duke was a founder of the Filson Club in Louisville. He died in New York City in 1916 and was buried in the Lexington Cemetery.
