Norwood, C. J. (Charles Joseph), 1853-1927
Charles J. Norwood was a geologist of some note during the late nineteenth and early twentieth centuries. He held positions as Dean of the University of Kentucky College of Mines and Metallurgy, was the third head of the Kentucky Geological Survey, and was a pioneer in the field of mine safety. Norwood was also part owner of the Russellville Herald-Enterprise, and at the turn of the century briefly taught Darwinian theory at Bethel College.
