Baker, Daniel, 1791-1857

Daniel Baker (1791-1857) was born in Georgia and served congregations in Virginia, Washington D. C., Georgia, Kentucky, Alabama and Mississippi before permanently returning to Galveston, Texas in 1848 (after a brief stay in 1840). Baker was a founding member of Austin College (1849), served as a general agent for collecting funds for the college, and was president from 1853-1857. Daniel Baker College in Brownwood was posthumously named in his honor.
