Pickler, J. A. (John Alfred), 1844-1910

J. A. Pickler (b. Jan. 24, 1844, Salem, IN-d. June 13, 1910, Faulkton, SD) enlisted in the 3rd Iowa Cavalry Regiment during the American Civil War. A lawyer and politician he served in the Iowa House of Representatives. Pickler moved to the Dakota Territory and played a key role in introducing the territory's first bill to give women the right to vote. After South Dakota became a state he was elected as a Republican to one of South Dakota's at-large seats in the United States House of Representatives.
