Spingarn, Hope, b. 1907.
Hope Spingarn was born in 1907 to Amy Spingarn, writer and artist, and Joel Spingarn, literary critic and second president of the NAACP. After college, she traveled abroad extensively, before returning to New York to become a political activist and journalist. In 1949 she moved to Bombay to provide public relations for Family Planning of India. There she married Hitindra Malik, editor for The Near East and Far East Times.
