D, Cornell Univ., 1965; instructor in history, Ohio State Univ., 1962-64; asst. professor of history, California State College at Long Beach, 1964-69; asst. professor, 1969-71, then assoc. professor of history, Loyola Univ. (Chicago); member, American Historical Association, Economic History Association, and Organization of American Historians; wrote Business and politics in America from the age of Jackson to the Civil War (1971) and Brutal justice : the ordeal of an American city (1980).
