Brush, Dorothy Hamilton, 1894-1968
Birth control advocate; Women's rights advocate; Author. Dorothy Hamilton Brush (1894-1968) began working with Margaret Sanger as a volunteer at her clinic in the 1930s. Brush joined Sanger as a birth control missionary to Europe and the Far East. She helped found International Planned Parenthood Federation and started and edited its first newsletter. She researched and wrote on birth control, sex education, Margaret Sanger and her work, Japanese women, and menopause. Brush was married 3 times to 1) Charles Brush Jr. in 1917 (he died in 1929); 2) Alexander Dick in 1929 (divorced); and 3) in 1962, she married Dr. Lewis Walmsley, an educational missionary. Brush had 3 children: Charles III, Sylvia D. Brush, and Jane H. Brush.
