Cheney Brothers
Mount Nebo Silk Manufacturing established by Charles, Frank, Ralph, and Ward Cheney and other family members in 1837; in 1843 renamed Cheney Brothers Silk Manufacturing Company; and in 1873 name changed to Cheney Brothers; sold to J.P. Stevens & Co., in 1955 and later resold to Gerli, Inc.; mills in South Manchester and Manchester, Conn., with offices in New York, N.Y.; closed in 1984.
