Kaur Singh, Amrit

Amrit and Rabindra Kaur Singh are twin sisters, and award winning painters, whose use of traditional Indian miniature portraiture techniques is influenced by contemporary British politics and culture. Born in Richmond, Surrey to parents originally from India, the family moved to and settled in the Wirral when the twins were seven were seven years old. The twins later studied Contemporary Western Art at Liverpool University College of Chester.

Known and celebrated as one artist, and collectively known as the Singh Twins or The Twins, their work is characterised by a bright palette, intricate design and modern themes. Key exhibitions and roles include a solo show at the National Gallery of Modern Art, New Dehli 2002, a major retrospective at the Walker Gallery in Liverpool in 2005 and being appointed Official Artists in Residence at the Manchester Commonwealth Games 2002 and contributing to Liverpool City of Culture from 2006-2008.
