Graves, Benjamin F. (Benjamin Franklin), 1817-1906.
Graves donated property to expand the city limits of Battle Creek (Mich.). He was born in New York (State) on Oct. 18, 1817 and admitted to the NY Bar in 1841. He became a Journal Clerk of the NY Senate the same year. In 1843 he moved to Battle Creek (Mich.) where he worked as a lawyer until 1857. Graves served as Magistrate and Judge of the 5th Circuit Court, 1857-1866. He was twice elected Justice of the Supreme Court of Michigan (1867, 1875.) For further information see Michigan Biographies, v. 1, p. 345.) His son Henry B. Graves, married Mabelle M. Graves, and his daughter, Lydia G. Graves, married Herbert Bowen. They lived in Wayne County (Mich.).
