Eberhart, Nelle Richmond
Nelle Richmond Eberhart, poet, writer, teacher and lyricist was born in Nebraska in 1871. Best known for her work with Charles Wakefield Cadman, she is credited with introducing him to the music and culture of Native Americans. They collaborated on both songs and opera including Shanewis, which was performed at the Metropolitan Opera from 1917-1919. She also wrote the words for the opera The Willow Tree, the first opera commissioned for radio. Eberhart died in 1944.
