Western North Carolina Railroad Company
Incorporated in North Carolina in 1855 to build a railroad to connect the North Carolina Railroad with the Mississippi Valley; main line opened in 1881 from Salisbury to Paint Rock, N.C. (185 miles); part of Richmond and Danville system (1880-1894); controlled by Southern Railway Company after 1894.
