Roberts-Austen, W. C. (William Chandler), Sir, 1843-1902
Born Roberts, assumed the names Chandler and Roberts-Austin at the request of an uncle. Educated at the School of Mines and became assistant to Graham, then master of the mint. In 1869 he became 'Chemist of the Mint' and served as chemist and assayer to the mint, 1882-1902.
