Dann (Family : Dann, Albert, 1868-1960)
Albert Dann was born in Frankfurt in 1868. His grandfather, Dr. Leopold Stein, was one of the first liberal rabbis in Germany. Albert moved to Augsburg in 1899 and worked in wholesale for lining materials. He was active in the Jewish community's leadership and served in World War I, despite being over the age limit. He was imprisoned in 1938 and emigrated to Palestine thereafter. He died in 1960 in England. For full biography see the biographical abstract, DM 65 .
Sophie and Gertrud Dann, Albert's daughters, emigrated to England in 1939. Eventually they both worked at the Hampstead nurseries and in 1945 worked with 6 child survivors of Teresienstadt who were relocated to Bulldogs Bank. Sophie Dann in collaboration with Anna Freud published a study of the children's behavioral and psychological state.
