Brookes, William, active 1642
W. Brookes, politician and ironmonger, migrated to Australia in 1848 and set up in partnership with his brother in an ironmongery business in Brisbane, 1858. He was a member of the Legislative Assembly, 1864-1866, 1888-c. 1893 and a fighter for the abolition of coloured labour in Queensland.
