1814 lieutenant, 1st (later Grenadier) guards; 1815-1818 served during the allied occupation of France on the staff of Colonel Sir Andrew Barnard in Paris and Cambrai; 1822 captain (the army); 1822 lieutenant and captain (the Grenadier Guards); 1831 captain and lieutenant-colonel (the Grenadier Guards); 1838-1842 2nd battalion, service in Canada; 1847 adjuntant-general, the northern and midland district; 1846 brevet colonel; 1849 lieutenant-colonel; 1854 major-general 1854-1855 served in the Crimea War; 1855 chief of staff, commander of the 2nd division and local lieutenant-general; 1855 CB; 1856 KCB, commander of the Légion d'honneur (third class) and commander of the military order of Savoy (first class); 1856-1857 administrative post in Bengal; 1857 commander, the Sirhind division; 1857 served during the Indian Mutiny (1857-1858).
