New York Public Library. Municipal Reference Library

The Municipal Reference Library, created in 1913 as a New York City agency, was incorporated into The New York Public Library in 1914. The Library maintained a collection of official reports and publications of New York City, and provided general reference services to government agencies and the public. Under the leadership of Rebecca Rankin, the library was instrumental in establishing a Municipal Archives and Records Center for the City in 1952. In 1969 the Municipal Reference Library was transferred back to the City of New York.
