Michigan Federation of Music Clubs.

The Michigan Federation of Music Clubs was formed in 1916 through the efforts of Mrs. Frederick W. Nichols of Houghton, Mich. Since there existed only 13 known music clubs in Mich. at the time, she asked the Tuesday Musicale of Detroit for assistance in creating a Mich. federation. A constitution and by-laws was drawn up, with Mrs. Nichols elected as first president. In 11 years the federation grew to 130 clubs. Today there are 42 senior active clubs, 6 senior associate, 96 junior, and 3 student clubs (147 total) in Mich. The M.F.M.C. is a chapter of the National Federation of Music Clubs, a philanthropic organization dedicated to the study, promotion, and performance of music. The Mich. division is headquartered in Birmingham.
