Lawyer and state legislator; b. Granville, N.Y.; moved to Madison, Ind., 1817 where opened law practice; in 1819 moved to Sandusky, Ohio; served in Ohio House of Representatives (1822, 1823, 1825, 1840) and U.S. 22nd Congress (1831-1833).
