Lucas, Helen Lord, b. ca. 1905.

Mr. C. J. Lord came to Washington State from Chautauqua County, NY where he was formerly a partner with his father's firm specializing in the importation of livestock, particularly Holstein cows from Holland. Mr. Lord came to Olympia, WA with the express purpose of organizing a bank. In 1890 the Capital National Bank was organized and began operations with capitalization of $100,000. By 1902, Capital National Bank was the 4th largest banking institution in size in Washington State. At one point, he sold his interest in the bank but later regained control of it. Mr. Lord was the Mayor of Olympia, WA for 1902-1903. Mr. Lord was involved in many different business enterprises. By 1922, Mr. Lord was considered a very influential figure in the Washington State financial industry. He was prominent in the development of the banking system of the state and his bank served as the state repository for many years. He and his wife, Elizabeth, decided to build a home in 1922. Mr. Lord had married Elizabeth Reynolds about 1890. It appears that they were married in New York State. After their marriage, they had moved to Washington State. About 1905, their only child, Helen Lord was born. Mr. & Mrs. Lord engaged Olympia architect Joseph Wohleb to design an impressive home at 211 21st Ave. SW in Olympia, WA. The Lord Mansion is a Spanish Colonial villa surrounded by lush lawns and evergreen trees. The home included a matching "coach house" behind the home that included chauffeur's quarters upstairs. About 1929, Helen Lord married William D. Lucas. Mr. Lord passed away in 1939. After his death, Mrs. Lord donated the mansion to Washington State. It was converted to its present use as the State Capital Museum. It is listed on both the National and Washington State Register of Historic Places. Mrs. Lord passed away on 11 Feb. 1947.
