Paton Walsh, Jill
Jill Paton Walsh was born April 29, 1937, in London, England. She is considered one of England's most brilliant and perceptive authors for children and young people. She has written historical fiction, contemporary realistic fiction, science fiction, and nonfiction. She is also the author of well-received mysteries, realistic fiction, and short stories for adults. In the 1990s she moved in a new direction as a writer and began doing picture books and original folk tales for young children. Paton Walsh has often described satisfying intergenerational relationships in her books for older children and young people. Two of her picture books, When Grandma Came and When I Was Little Like You, also share that theme. She has won several awards and honors for her work.
