Tobias, Nelle

Nelle Tobias (May 11, 1906 - April 30, 2005) was a pioneer environmentalist from McCall, Idaho who played a major role in conservation efforts in Idaho for over fifty years. She graduated from the College of Idaho in 1928 and served as a landscape architect for ten years with the National Park Service before opening Edgewater Cabins on the Payette River in McCall. She was a founding member of the Idaho Conservation League and was involved in nearly every preservation effort in Idaho including the 1964 Wilderness Act and the preservation of Hells Canyon and the Frank Church-River of No Return Wilderness.
